Transport yourself back to the swinging world of the 1940s in this fun weekly session by learning some of the basics of Lindy Hop the dance sensation that took the era by storm. Combining Charleston, traditional jazz and titles step basics you’ll learn the basics to get you out on to the social dance floor. Although taught in small blocks of footwork variations you can join at any point.

Creole Carnival was founded by Gregory Abouna and it is all about the Caribbean spirit – fun, music and dance! Since its establishment in 2010, Creole Carnival has built up a community of people from all walks of life and of all ages, across Darlington and the North East.
Gregory Abouna is a dance instructor from Haiti. Having grown up in the Caribbean, Gregory is passionate about bringing a taste of his homeland and a love of Latin-Caribbean music to Darlington and the local community. Gregory has lived in France, Haiti, New York and Miami, after which he travelled extensively, arriving in the UK in 2002. He brings his love of music, dance and the Afro-Caribbean joy for life to his infectious, inclusive style of teaching and events. Gregory teaches mainly Cuban style salsa, with some cross-body style salsa moves thrown in! He is passionate about the Afro-Cuban roots of salsa and the melting pot of culture and history that make it such a rich and exciting form of music and dance.

Steve Pledger is an award-winning singer/songwriter with an enviable reputation as a talented and dynamic performer. BBC Introducing have called his music “beautiful, authentic, unblemished and wonderful”. With writing that ranges from fragile reflections on love and loss to blistering commentaries on present circumstances, his songs pack an emotional punch, both on record and on stage.
His musical influences are many and varied and include Graham Parker, Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, Martyn Joseph, Van Morrison, Ryan Adams, Don McLean, Springsteen and others.
His third album, ‘Somewhere Between’ won the coveted FATEA Album Of The Year Award and Folkwords’ Album Of The Year by a Male Artist. It has also received other nominations and appeared on a number of radio shows’ Best of 2016 lists.
